Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet community in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" location. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar to its significance. Many people believe that it's an island located west of Montreal however the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities in Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay was not long in the city. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. Her early ambition was to be a dancer but a growth spurt meant that she literally outgrew her dance partners. The Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. Once I was bigger than any male partner and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of dancers go from dancing into acting. In the case of Bruce, it was her drama instructor who pushed her into this path. Her teacher invited her to take part in an audition in the school's production. She auditioned and was cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program which she graduated with the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. In the 20+ years since Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across small and big screens drawing the most attention when she landed the part in the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of occasions in the first season of the show The Handmaid's Tale. The only Canadian actor.
